Empower Yourself: The Complete AIA+2030 Online Series is Here
June 6, 2018
The much anticipated final course of the AIA+2030 Online Series has arrived on AIAU, marking the completion of this highly-rated professional education program. Co-produced by Architecture 2030 and AIA, and sponsored by Autodesk, the ten-part AIA+2030 Online Series addresses the design strategies, tools, and processes necessary for achieving dramatic reductions in building energy use and emissions.
This is the first comprehensive professional on-line program in the U.S. that addresses specific design and technology applications to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions in building design.” −Edward Mazria, Founder and CEO, Architecture 2030
The ten courses are taught by over 40 leading experts from the architecture and engineering fields, and provide viewers with the insights and tools they need to design high performance buildings that meet the 2030 Challenge targets. Each course explores a specific component of high performance design:
COURSE 1: THE 2030 CHALLENGE: GOALS AND PROCESSES
Course 1 explores the integrated design processes used to produce high-performance and carbon neutral buildings, looking at shell and core, and early design decisions such as building form and orientation.
COURSE 2: THE POWER OF TARGETS AND LOAD REDUCTION
Course 2 examines the importance of setting energy targets early in the design process, and the tools available to establish and track progress towards meeting these targets.
COURSE 3: ACCENTUATE THE POSITIVE: CLIMATE RESPONSIVE DESIGN
Course 3 describes how to use climate data and site characteristics to conduct climate analyses, inform building design, and reduce energy loads.
COURSE 4: BUILDING SKIN: THE IMPORTANCE OF THE THERMAL ENVELOPE
Course 4 addresses design, material, and technological approaches to wall and window assemblies to create high performance envelopes.
COURSE 5: EMPLOYING PASSIVE SYSTEMS FOR LOAD REDUCTION
Course 5 delves into passive systems that, when properly designed, capture existing site resources to improve occupant comfort and reduce energy needs.
COURSE 6: DAYLIGHTING AND INTEGRATED LIGHTING DESIGN
Course 6 identifies strategies for maximizing natural light while integrating efficient artificial lighting and controls for glare and unwanted heat gain.
COURSE 7: HIGH PERFORMANCE BUILDING SYSTEMS
Course 7 considers the effective integration of mechanical systems and controls with passive design strategies for optimum building performance.
COURSE 8: THE ROLE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY
Course 8 examines the role of renewable energy in carbon neutral design and investigates current renewable energy opportunities both on-site and off-site at the neighborhood, district, and utility scales.
COURSE 9: STAYING IN SHAPE: O&M AND COMMISSIONING
Course 9 demystifies commissioning and highlights the importance of building performance data and smart building systems to validate and improve performance, and as tools for iterative learning and innovation.
COURSE 10: PUTTING IT TOGETHER: ACHIEVING 2030 GOALS ON THE PROJECT AND IN THE OFFICE
Course 10 explores how the 2030 Commitment enables designers to achieve 2030 Challenge targets by transforming firm culture and practice.
“With a growing population, exploding demand for energy, and the impacts of climate change, designing energy efficient carbon neutral buildings will soon become the norm for architects everywhere. Autodesk proudly supports the work of this Architecture 2030 and AIA program to help architects achieve 2030 Challenge targets.” – Lynelle Cameron, VP of Sustainability at Autodesk
