Efficient Products

Purchasing energy-efficient light bulbs, appliances, electronics and other products can not only reduce your home’s need for fossil-fuel energy, but can save you money. The US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy have a product rating system specifically devoted to energy efficiency called Energy Star. Look for the Energy Star label on thousands of products to see if they meet the strict energy efficiency guidelines. Energy Star has also begun to rate homes that are built to an energy efficiency standard.

Visit the Energy Star website to find products from more than 50 categories that meet the energy efficiency standards.

The Home Depot recently launched its Eco Options, which highlights environmentally friendly products, including those that are energy-efficient like compact fluorescent light bulbs. Nearly 3,000 products are labeled presently and 6,000 products are expected to be Eco Options by 2009.

Visit the Home Depot’s Eco Options website and click on Energy Efficient for more information and a list of products.
